Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Non-invasive imaging using magnetic fields

MRI of Abdominal

MRI is a diagnostic procedure that uses magnetic fields to create detailed images of the abdominal and organs. It provides valuable information about the organs, blood vessels, and tissues in this area, helping to detect and diagnose various medical conditions.

  1. Evaluation of abdominal organs: It allows for a detailed assessment of organs such as the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, spleen, and adrenal glands. It can help identify tumors, cysts, infections, or other abnormalities in these organs.
  2. Vascular Abnormalities: The procedure can help detect vascular conditions such as aneurysms, or abnormal blood vessel formations in the abdomen and pelvis.
  3. Staging of Cancer: MRI in determining the extent of cancer spread.
  1. Fasting: In some cases, fasting for a few hours before the procedure. This is usually done to ensure a clear visualization of the abdominal organs and in cases of contrast administration . Your healthcare provider will provide specific instructions regarding fasting if necessary.
  2. Medication and Allergies: Inform your healthcare provider about any medications you are currently taking, as well as any known allergies, especially to contrast agents used in imaging studies. Some MRI exams may require the use of a contrast agent injected intravenously to enhance the visibility of certain structures.
  3. Metal Objects: Remove all metal objects, including jewelry, watches, piercings, and removable dental work, as they can interfere with the magnetic field. You may be asked to change into a hospital gown before the procedure.
  4. Communicate with your healthcare provider: It is essential to inform your healthcare provider about any existing health conditions or concerns before the MRI. This includes pregnancy, claustrophobia, or any implanted medical devices or metal fragments.
